"On June 29, 1955, R. Gordon Wasson, then a vice president
of the prestigious banking firm J.P. Morgan, together with
his friend, New York fashion photographer Allan Richardson,
made history by becoming the first whites to participate in
a velada. The nocturnal mushroom ceremony took place in the
remote village of Huautla de Jimenez, in the northeast
region of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Under the guidance of the now famous Mazatec curandera Maria
Sabina, Wasson and Richardson each consumed six pairs of the
mushroom Psilocybe caerulescens var. mazatecorum. After an
hour the two men began to feel the effects, which were
manifest by visions of colorful geometric patterns, palaces,

Where to Eat
La Esquina - The best kept secret in Ensenada. Located in the
Ensenada wine district on Calle Gastelum, this restaurant occupies an
old wine cellar that has been transformed into an art exhibit hall and
restaurant. They also have a small wine cellar where you can buy wines
from the local Ensenada wineries. The menu changes daily and La Esquina
has one of the best chefs in town. Entrees include pastas, fine meats,
gourmet salads and delicious appetizers. Very reasonably priced too!
La Embotelladora Vieja. Ensenada's most elegant restaurant was
once a wine-aging room at the Santo Tomás winery. The Baja French menu
could include smoked tuna, grilled lobster in cabernet sauvignon sauce,
or quail with sauvignon blanc sauce. Some dishes are available without
alcohol-enhanced sauces. AE, MC, V. Closed Monday.

Article: Alaska Airlines Files To Serve Loreto, Mexico In
Partnership With Leading Developer Loreto Bay Company 10/19/2004
SEATTLE—Alaska Airlines today announced it has applied for authority to
provide nonstop service from Los Angeles to Loreto, Mexico. The service
will be supported by a marketing partnership with The Loreto Bay
Company. The twice-weekly flights will begin February 17, 2005, pending
U.S. Department of Transportation approval.
BAY OF LORETO NATIONAL MARINE PARK
In 1996, as the result of initiatives from the Loreto community, Mexican
President Ernesto Zedillo established as law the Bay of Loreto National
Marine Park. It was the third such protected marine bio-region in the
Sea of Cortez, which is the breeding area for the Pacific gray
whale. The park covers 1,283 miles and includes the 5
'biosphere reserve' Islands of Coronado, Carmen, Danzante, Monserrat and
Santa Catalina. The Bay of Loreto National Marine Park is also protected by the Sea of Cortez Migratory
Bird and Wildlife Refuge.
